Silent Retreat at Casal de Pau, 5 to 8 December 2013, Arbúcies, Spain
The object of the Retreat is to delve into the subject and find quietness of the mind in a tranquil environment, which would enhance greater self-observation and self-knowledge.
At the Feet of the Master by Alcyone (J. Krishnamurti) is a well-known gem of theosophical literature on ethics. Written in easily readable form, it conveys the four qualifications needed for the spiritual path. These four ideas, on which the book is based on, are developed more in Viveka-Chudamani, The Crest Jewel of Discrimination by Shankaracharya. Viveka-Chudamani, a great treasure of spiritual literature, is a compendium of the Upanishads containing the principles of advaita-vedanta philosophy.
Trân-Thi-Kim-Diêu is the Chair of the Council of the EFTS and the General Secretary of the TS France. She has conducted Silent Retreats for years and travels widely to encourage cooperation and promulgate the teachings as well as to share experience in service of the TS. Her main concern is to promote a new way of living where each human life can be guided by universal ethics and the mystic dimension of consciousness.
The programme of the Silent Retreat includes daily talks, question and answer sessions and meditation. During the Retreat participants can explore and ponder about the four qualifications for the path.
The themes of the daily talks are:
• An introduction to the two works: The first step is the last
• Discernment (viveka) and renouncement (aparigraha or abstaining from grasping) constitute a pair working together to generate a virtuous circle
• Right action in thinking, speech and deeds
• Liberation and Love
Apart from talks and question and answer sessions, participants will remain silent for the rest of the day and practice mindfulness.
